FAQs
Does Afro only accept Black authors and artists?
Yes — this is in no way an effort to discriminate against other races. We simply want to create a space where Black voices can be heard without megaphones, and shared without the aid of non-black hands. Afro is a space to promote raw, unapologetic blackness. If this upsets you, we’re not sorry.
Does Afro pay its contributors?
Yes! For each accepted submission, the contributor will receive $10. However, to sustain these awards, and to raise them in the future, we need donations! Donations can be made here.
Is Afro a teen magazine?
Afro is youth-made, but is not strictly for teens. We encourage submissions from creatives over 13, and we'll consider each submission the same, regardless of age.
Does Afro accept art?
Afro accepts all mediums of art - photography, digital art, paintings, sculptures - you name it! As long as it fits our theme, it’ll qualify for consideration. Check out our submit page for more information!
How long are response times?
Response times vary depending on the amount of submissions, but we should get back to you within six weeks. If you haven’t heard from us by then, feel free to send a query via email.
